Happy Friday! It’s so good to finally be here, my first day of no obligations in almost a month. That’s a long time for the introvert in me to go without a full recharge of energy. I foresee a day of quiet with studying, a speed run, and maybe I’ll sneak in a nap for good measure : ) Now, onto reflect on life’s happenings over the past 7 days. I decided to think about it on the three levels of body, mind, and spirit. We’ll see how it goes and if it sticks. Or maybe it will evolve, let me know what you think and feedback is always welcome.
Sun and fun on the run in Nisene Marks State Park on a crisp Saturday morning with the Fleet Feet Aptos training group!
First up, BODY. I’m finally feeling well enough to get back on track with some regular workouts. At the end of the fall quarter of school, finalsand a minor injury kept me from getting out more than once a week. The holidays came and went, and then I got hit with the cold/flu going around. I tried to resist, but it got the better of me. AND THEN to top the process off, I ran a half marathon. What?! I know, that’s what I wondered at mile 2. Now I’ve settled into speedwork on Fridays, training group on Saturdays, and a loop around Pinto Lake with Watsonville Moms Run This Town on Sundays. If I could squeeze in a workout during my school days, then my training would feel more balanced, but right now I haven’t figured out how to make that work.
Next, MIND. Finals last fall really challenged my confidence. It was time (after using the 10-day free trial over and over again for a year) to invest in a full subscription of the Headspace app. It’s the best self-care moment of my day. I play a 15-minute guided meditation right before I go to sleep and it’s definitely helped me achieve more piece of mind. I’ll have to do it justice with a full review, but I highly recommend you try it out. The opening series is just 10 minutes a day, so worth it in my opinion.
And can’t forget SPIRIT. I’ll admit it’s been a roller-coaster ride recently, but I keep looking for the UP moments. I shared my “Goal Setting G.P.A.” process in three different sessions this week and the connections with people (about 65 in total) have been amazing! School remains stressful, and yet I’ve gotten great feedback on 2 presentations and 1 quiz — a huge boost of confidence. And the weather was off the charts, so I had to multi-task at the beach while my husband surfed. Best of all worlds.
Nerd alert! Yes, I was the one on the beach with a laptop doing homework while everyone frolicked around me.
My favorite piece of developing spirit by far this week is my little hashtag project, #wesharethesun. I had been posting daily snaps of sunrises and sunsets since the beginning of the year and started thinking about WHY. The sun seems so far away, but also something we all have in common everyday. [Well, except if you live in the Pacific Northwest…which I have]. It’s a relatable moment, and now I think about all of you who have responded with comments and photos of your own each time I’m outside and look up. It’s pretty wonderful, like this morning:
