Nike Demo Day!

The morning greeted me with a torrential downpour, rain that had started the previous evening. It was going to be a wet, wet training group, and I layered myself in preparation. I don’t particularly enjoy being wet or cold, so last year I learned how to dress in order to minimize my discomfort during the mild California winters. (Sorry, East Coasters, this climate has made my Ohio constitution so soft!) I donned my favorite fleece leggings, a Nike tank, long sleeve, and rain shell. I topped it off with a Buff headscarf and my red Fleet Feet coaching hat and I was rain ready!

The best part of Nike demo day is our rep, Jarrett. He didn’t mind that we tried out the Kiger 2 trail shoe on a rainy, muddy run into Nisene Marks State Park. Bonus – we got to keep our own shoes clean and dry : ) I love the Nike vibe but my feet don’t usually agree, and I was surprised not to notice the shoes at all during or after my run. It was like they were a pair already in my rotation, which means I’ll need to save up to add them in! I don’t yet have a lightweight trail shoe for shorter runs, so it definitely fits a foreseeable need.

The tree canopy provided some cover in the park, the rain lightened up to a gentle sprinkle, and it felt quite humid. Several of us had to unlayer…so much for my thoughtful preparation. All in all, I got some nice time on my feet and was encouraged by the pretty large training group turnout. We aren’t going to let a little rain deter our workout!




I wish I would have snapped a photo of the pancake breakfast waiting for us when we finished. Fleet Feet hosted a local high school track and field team kickoff run, and we were generously invited to partake in the festivities. Fluffy pancakes with banana, chocolate chips, and syrup were the perfect finish to this soggy, yet high-spirited outing!


Stats: 1 hr 15 min on the clock. No heart rate data because I misplaced it, and have since found it for tomorrow’s (potentially wet! cold! muddy!) run.
